Augusto Barone was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, on December 12, 1901. He began as a stagehand assistant with the Chaby Pinheiro Company in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. With this company, he traveled to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. He worked with the Dulcina-Odilon Company and also with the comedian Mesquitinha's company. He went to work as an assistant to Oduvaldo Vianna at Rádio São Paulo (PRA-5), where he met and married the radio actress Leonor Navarro.
