Samantha Jane Morton (born 1977) is an English actress. She is known for her work in independent films with dark and tragic themes, in particular period dramas. She has received numerous accolades, including the BAFTA Fellowship, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and nominations for two Academy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Morton was a member of the Central Junior Television Workshop in her native Nottingham and began her career in British television in 1991.
