Born in Los Angeles, he began his career as a film editor in the 1930s, working on numerous projects before transitioning to directing in the 1950s. Keller directed films such as The Unguarded Moment (1956) and Quantez (1957). In 1958, he was tasked by Universal Pictures with directing re-shoots and additional scenes for Orson Welles's film Touch of Evil.
