Tomas lived in a village when he was younger, later going to a university that both Joseph Lai and Godfrey Ho were studying at. He shared a dorm with Joseph, where they both became very close friends and graduated on the same year. In 1974, Tomas created Filmark International Ltd. and later began working with Joseph as a producer for the company Asso Asia Films Ltd. around 1977.
